Last night I attended the wrap party of Sherlock Holmes 2. It was pretty exciting as it was the first film I ever worked on as a paint and roto artist, horray! Anyway, here’s the trailer!

Recently I attended a special screening of monsters inc at the Queen of Hoxton. The experience was really amazing! There’s nothing better than sitting in directors chairs with the views of the sunset across london, wireless headphones, a few pints, a bbq and an amazing pixar film.

They’re screening loads of cult classics throughout July/August. At £9.00 it’s cheaper than going to the regular cinema, plus the snacks aren’t rubbish and overpriced, i’d rather have an angus beef burger to accompany a film anyday. Very tempted to go again myself.

Developments Condensed

Finally finished a car I was modeling, could do with a bit of tweaking here and there but as a whole I’m pretty happy with my progress on it. Just noticed the indicator light is missing, I did model this but it some how seems to have got lost in translation, will update with a new render once new tweaks are performed.

Nissan Figaro -

I’ve been taking a break from running for a while as Framestore have given me a chance to work in the paint and roto department. It’s actually throughly enjoyable considering I went into it resembling something of a headless chicken. Alas to say, another skill learnt which totally beats running. Have bought some books on compostising, who knows? might even decide to take a new route through the vfx industry but my love for modeling hasn’t faded yet (not sure if it ever will).
My anatomy course is over so I have moved onto learning z brush in the form of an escape studios online course, time to put that anatomical theory into some good ole digital sculpture practice!

Disneyfied

Today I visited the BFI Southbank to watch a special preview of winnie the pooh. There was a Q and A at the end with some of the animators of the film. I even got my ticket signed by one of the animators of the Lion King, super cool beans! Can’t wait for the showing of the lion king at the BFI later on this year.

Next task - purchase the art of Ratatouille!

The art of Disney

If anyone has a love for Disney (who doesn’t) then I highly suggest them to have a look at the ‘art of’ series.

I got my first one (Wall-e) the other day and I can’t stop looking at it. I’m already contemplating on which one to get next. They are a great purchase for anyone who is into concept art and/or animation.

There isn’t one for every Disney film as they haven’t been around that long. The other great thing is that they’re highly collectable once out of print, so a great investment, not sure you’d ever want to sell them though : )

Search for them on amazon! There are also ‘art of’ books for other films, it’s worth a look.

Anatomy Course

I previously mentioned that I was learning anatomy and thought it would be rude not to mention the course I was taking. It has pushed me to grow as an artist and better my understanding within the fundamentals of character modeling.

The anatomy for artists course is amazing value for money and the content is vital for any aspiring character modeler/sculptor/artist.

A quick update

Has been such a long time since I posted, thus it has come to my attention that I probably should start being so lazy with my blogging. So here I am again.

I’ve had to give up the freelance graphic/illustration work to concentrate on my new job as a runner in a VFX company, yay! So although my passion for wacky illustration and graphics still continues in the back of my mind. All my spare time is taken up with 3D modeling and recently, learning about human anatomy… interesting :/ So expect VFX related posts to be added to the bloggings.

On another note, the sun is starting to appear again *Finally!* and my screen will make an appearance from underneath the bed where it has been hibernating for the winter.

Pantone Storage Tins

Saw these in a shop in Soho the other day.

They were £12 each in the shop, which seems to be cheaper than all the online prices I’ve found. Essentially they’re just metal tins with some decoration but I really love them. Very tempted to buy one to store my acrylic paints in. Now which colour do I choose?

I’ve finally taken a photo of one of the t-shirts I produced, as promised.

It’s one of the off center ones but I think it’s still looks reasonably ok for a first attempt. It’s been washed once so has faded quite a bit. Note to self – From no hand printed tees will be thrown in the wash on 40 in future!
